Public Service Commission Chairperson Amb. Anthony Muchiri has called out public institutions operating out of the approved establishments. He noted that these institutions are the biggest deterrents to addressing the wage bill crisis. The PSC Chair said this while making his presentation during the Wage Bill Conference 2024 at the Bomas of Kenya on 15th April 2024. 

“Some public institutions are failing to operate within approved staff establishment levels, which impedes the country’s development trajectory, as resources are disproportionately allocated to staff compensation, rather than economic development initiatives.” said Amb. Muchiri. 

Further, Mr. Muchiri urged government institutions to leverage on technology to enhance efficiency in service delivery as well as lower the costs of hiring more personnel. 

The Wage Bill Conference 2024, themed “Towards 35%” organised by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC). The three days event aims at consolidating views from different stakeholders on how to lower the national wage bill from the current 43% to  35% by the year 2028. 

The conference was  officially graced by the Head of Public Service Felix Koskei, the Chief Guest. Other dignitaries present were Nyeri Governor H.E Mutahi Kahiga, SRC Chairperson Mrs. Lyn Chemingich, PSC Commissioners, Principal Secretary Public Service Mr. Amos Gathecha, Principal Secretary Performance Ms. Veronica Nduva.
