Public Service Commission, in conjunction with Mozilla Corporation and the African Advanced Level Telecommunications Institute (AFRALTI), has rolled out a capacity-building program for public servants on Data Protection and Cybersecurity. The training programme is scheduled to run from 24th June 2024 to 5th July 2024 at Gold Tulip, Westlands Nairobi.
At the launch of this crucial training programme, the Acting PSC Commission Secretary, Mr Remmy Mulati, underscored the vital role of this training in equipping public servants with the necessary knowledge and skills to handle data in accordance with the Data Protect Act, 2019.
“The Government handles, controls and processes a huge amount of data belonging to citizens, and therefore, it is important that data controllers and processors are provided with necessary capacity building,” said Mr Mulati.
The PSC acting CEO further urged the Mozilla Corporation to arrange similar training sessions to benefit more Ministries, State Departments and Agencies officers.
Speaking at the event, the AFRALTI Director of Training, Mr. Jonathan Mwakijelea, reiterated the institute’s unwavering commitment to empowering state agencies with the knowledge and skills to secure sensitive information effectively. This commitment is a testament to the effectiveness and value of the training programme.
“By equipping our state agencies with advanced capabilities in data protection and cybersecurity, we not only bolster their defences but also instil confidence in Kenyan citizens that their shared data is well-secured,” said Mwakijelea
The Capacity-building programme for data handlers in public service aims to train 131 officers from MDAs in four-phase training sessions.
Also in attendance were AFRALTI trainers, Cohort 1 trainees and PSC Director of Finance and Resource Mobilization, Mr. Maina Njoroge.
